INTERNATIONAL HUMANIST & ETHICAL UNION
The IHEU is the world union of Humanist, rationalist, secular, ethical, atheist and freethought organizations. Our goal is a Humanist world in which human rights are respected and all can live a life of dignity. The Humanist Association of Canada is a member of IHEU.
Founded in early 2007, Canadian Freethinker is a quarterly Canadian magazine that provides a forum for freethinkers across the country and promotes Humanist groups and programs. The magazine includes essays and articles on philosophy, ethics, science, technology, news and politics along with free expression through poetry and visual arts. Its mission is to increase awareness of freethinkers via a national print media forum that encourages open dialogue about Humanism and secularism. The Association for Science and Reason (formerly Skeptics Canada) is a not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to promote the understanding and application of critical thinking skills and scientific methodology via educational outreach, activism, collecting and disseminating information, and communication.
The premier organization labouring for the civil liberties of Atheists, and the total, absolute separation of government and religion. It was born out of a court case begun in 1959 by the Murray family which challenged prayer recitation in the public schools. That case – Murray v. Curlett – was a landmark in American jurisprudence on behalf of our First Amendment Rights.
The mission of the American Humanist Association is to increase public awareness and acceptance of humanism, to establish, protect and promote the position of humanists in our society, and to develop and advance humanist thought and action. The AHA is a US-based organization.
